Terrier

Pictured Above: Bridgett

General: all Terriers were originally breed to pursue game and drive it out of its hole or burrow. There are many varieties short, long and wire haired. many by modern man has been bred down to no more than lap dogs but still today there are many breeders of all kinds or terriers who do still breed for work. Some may be cross bred and many are dedicated working breeders with generations of hard working breeders. Well bred working terriers may not be best at a typical household but for a weight puller their working drive, love to please and relentless nature make a great working prospect.

Origin: originally bred by the Europeans terriers can now be found working every settled continent.

History: Terriers have been bred by man for probably as long as man has been involved in the evolution of dogs. for more great and detailed history of the terrier visit this link http://www.terrierman.com/historypics.htm

Temperament:  independent and energetic. At work he is a game hunter, tenacious, courageous, and single minded. At home he is playful, exuberant and overwhelmingly affectionate.

Size: Typically under 30lbs

Today's Uses: There are a lot of working terriers hunting below and above ground. there are terriers working as search and rescue dogs and also working for bomb and drug enforcement agencies. You will also find many terriers pulling very well at almost any weight pull.
