Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Pictured Above: "Nova" Owned by Marika Krejki. General: The Staffy Bull should a Stocky or blocky little bulldog with a muscular frame of great strength for his size but yet agile alert and graceful. Staffys are very smart and caring, that makes them great dogs for active and young owners. Staffys are very responsive to training and eager to please. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has many admirable quality's that makes this a great pet and relentless worker no matter what is the task at hand. Origin: Staffordshire Bull Terriers can originally be traced to the original pit dogs of Europe.
History: The Staffy is first cousin to the old Stafford pit dogs of England. These dogs were derived from old time bulldog and crosses with whippet types or terriers. The crosses with Whippet added agility and stamina while the Terriers added tenacity and quick reflexes. Temperament: Remember the Staffordshire Bull Terriers are very strong, energetic, agile and powerful dogs. They also are very resourceful, and "determination" is one of their most notable traits. Whether destroying your new couch when left home alone, or climbing into your lap and shower you with kisses! They don't give up to easily. Staffys are very adaptable and will even do well in urban living provided they have enough exercise or other positive outlets for their energy. Many Staffys are easy going couch potatoes but can also be quite rambunctious until they mature. Maturity can come pretty late 2 to 3 years old in some cases.
Size: 30-50 pounds Today's Uses: Most are great family pets and many Staffys are bred for show and work. They excel in Agility, Weight pull, fly ball and protection. Many have become great Weight pull dogs.
