Olde Boston Bulldogge

General: The Olde Boston Bulldogge should be of small to medium height and size (not a toy) with a round compact head and a solid muscular and athletic body. They should be outgoing, loyal, lively and intelligent. Olde Boston's are a healthy working dog without serious health problems. The Olde Boston should be devoid of all breathing problems. Most importantly the Olde Boston Bulldogge is still a working Bulldog and function should come before form.

Origin: Boston, Massachusetts USA.

History: The Olde Boston Bulldogge is the original Boston Bulldog. This breed is of the original type and form. This breed was once known as the round-headed Bull and Terrier of the Boston area. The Olde Boston Bulldogge is the breed from which the Boston Terrier was developed, therefore history of the Olde Boston Bulldogge is the same as for the Boston Terrier. Much of the credit for preserving and re-establishing this rare breed should be given to the late Mr. Neil Rutan and his Son Nathaniel. They have worked hard to preserve what is the Olde Boston Bulldogge. Today many people have begun to cross Boston Terrier's to try reproduce these dogs but none are true Olde Boston's that have been kept and preserved by the Rutan family.

Temperament: Stable and trustworthy with family but can be dog and small animal aggressive.

Size: 28-42 pounds.

Today's Uses: The Rutan family still uses their Olde Boston's hunting small game, Rats, Coon, Opossum even wild Hog. Some Olde Boston's have been started in Weight Pull and could become a tough adversary in years to come.
