German Jagdterrier

Pictured Above:

General: The Jagdterrier is a small dog and makes an ideal companion in the home or hunting in the field. The Jagd is a high drive working terrier living up to a true terrier name. Owners must use up its daily active energy or they will face a destructive ill mannered dog. The Jagd can make a good pet but is best in a hunting or working home.

Origin: Germany.

< >

History: The Jagd terrier (German Jagdterrier, Deutscher Jagdterrier, German Hunt Terrier) is a young breed developed in the turn of the 20th century. developed in Germany by crossing the original old English Fox Terrier and the Black and Tan Hunting Terrier for a functional hunting dog used on a wide variety of game, including wild boar, badger, fox and weasel.

Temperament: highly intelligent and affable with its Owner and Hunters. its determination to work, high drive and energy, the breed should not be kept strictly as a pet even though they are very friendly. This is a breed that must work or hunt.

Size: 18 - 22lbs

Today's Uses: Most owners of the Jagdterrier are dedicated hunters and most breeders will not sell to a non-hunting home. The Jagd can make a great weight puller thanks to its dedication to its owner and daily combustible energy.
