Boston Terrier

Pictured Above: "Navin" Owned by Trent Vance

General: The Boston Terrier  is lively, intelligent, smooth coated, short round-headed, compactly built, well- balanced dog. They are brindle, seal or black in color. The Boston is a sturdy built dog and must not leggy or coarse. Bone and muscle must be in well proportion, as well as the dog's weight and structure. The leg must be in balance with the length of body giving the Boston as powerful square appearance. The strong limbs are neatly turned. The tail is short. When comparing male to females the only difference is a slightly refined in he bitch's conformation.

Origin: Boston Terriers were originally bred in Boston Massachusetts. Hence the name Boston Terrier.

History: The original Boston Terrier was a cross of English Bulldog and the White English Terrier. Boston breeders began using this cross in the early 1800's. A huge amount of crosses were soon conducted and by 1893 emerged a dog bred down from Boxer, English Bull Terrier, Pit Bull Terrier, other Terrier and French Bulldog. The first Boston's were shown in a round-headed bull and terriers class with any color.

Temperament: The Boston Terrier is a friendly and fun dog. The breed has a great disposition and high intelligence, which makes the Boston Terrier an incomparable companion. The Boston can be a scrappy little dog and will not back down from much of anything.

Size: 15-25 pounds.

Today's Uses:  A Family and Show dog the Boston is also making waves in weight pull and agility along with other competitive sports.
