White English Bulldog
Pictured Above: Hedden's Buddy Roe Owned by Heather Wilkins Father General: The White English or Old English White Bulldog refers to an Alaunt type dog brought into the southeast United States by settlers and Armies. What was once Spanish Florida is the area where these dogs can mostly be found. The Old English is a culmination of predominately English and Spanish Bulldogs that is actually a type consisting of many local varieties. In middle Georgia the common variety is the Carr White English Bulldog which is an old line that is still used on farms and ranches protecting the family and working with livestock. Many American Bulldogs consist of donated blood from the Old English White and White English Bulldog. Origin: Southeast Untied States of America. < > History: The Old English or White English Bulldog can surely trace its early history to the Alaunts of Spain, the Old type English Bulldogs and Livestock Guardian Dogs brought by settlers and Armies in what was once the Area of Spanish Florida. Wars brought with it the dogs used to fight Indian militia. Much is known of the Spanish Dogs of War or Alaunts used to fight Indian tribes throughout the Americas. Importers and traders had dogs to control slave populations able to Track down, Hold and Maime those who tried to escape for freedom. The Spanish, English and French settlers brought with them their own strain or type of Alaunt, Mastiff and Bulldog to work the newly settled land for many purposes from protecting livestock to hunting large game. Much of Florida was still home to an abundance of Florida Panther, Bears and Wolves in an area where law and land was always open for attack and thievery it was necessary for Settlers to have Livestock Guardian Dogs to protect their cattle, sheep and other livestock from predators and invaders. From the blood of the early Alaunts, Mastiff's and Bulldogs arose what we know today as the Old English White or White English Bulldog. Many of these dogs became isolated and tightly bred in many local areas of the southeast United States passed down from one generation to the next for the sole purposes of protecting the family and livestock to hunting many varieties of game as a multi purpose Working Bulldog. Much of the same can be said for the American Bulldog but sensing a loss of true stable working bulldogs Ray Lane and other breeders formed the White English Bulldog Preservation Society in 2006 and began to isolate the old lines of White English Bulldog to maintain the old southern Bulldogs they grew up with. Temperament: Loyal and Courageous the White English Bulldog should be protective of its owner, property, livestock and above all Children. The White English Bulldog should be submissive and calm with its owner never displaying a threat to its handler.
Size: Male range from 65lbs up to 110lbs and Females from 55lbs to 85lbs. The reason for such a wide range is because of the many different "localized" strains of the Old English White and White English Bulldog. Today's Uses: A Dog that can handle many task's from guarding controlling and retrieving unruly livestock, protecting farm and family and in many hunting aspects from treeing Squirrels and Bear to catching large game like Hogs and Cattle. Thanks to generations of multi purpose working dogs the Old English White or White English Bulldog make formidable weight pull dogs with their combination of size, structure, strength, devoted loyalty, willingness to please and desire to conquer.
